Local Cultural Council Minutes 2/4/09
Minutes:  Meeting, February 4, 2009

Present: Kathryn Roberts, John Heffernan, Maureen Banner, Neil McGinnis,
Kit Patten, Dianna Downing, Joel Schick

1. We welcomed a new member to the Council today:  Kit Patten.  He came to this meeting as a guest, and ended up being sworn in by the Town Clerk.
2. On the new member front, we have two more people to look forward to. Wendy Jensen, who has led two popular basketry workshops for us, is moving to Monterey this spring.  She has expressed interest in joining the MCC when she becomes a Monteregian.  And our old friend Susan Johnson, whose MCC term ended in summer, 2007, is ready to rejoin the group.  Joel will call her and ask her to come to the March meeting.
3. Jane Kasten is planning to present a workshop on growing herbs.  We'd like to schedule this event for late March or early April, so that people can use their new knowledge to plant some nice herbs for this coming season.  Laury will nail down a final date with Jane.
4. Laury is also talking to Josh Needleman about a chocolate workshop. Nothing definite yet; but we know that chocolate is always in season.
5. John Root called to schedule his edible plants slide lecture.  He'd like a date in May or June.  We decided to try for Friday, May 22.  Joel will call him.
6. Bonner McAllester has expressed interest in doing some more nature walks or some such this year.  That suits us right down to the ground.  Nothing was decided except that we want to talk to her.  We also decided that it would be nice to ask Bonner's Mountain Laurel Band to play at the big Photo Show opening reception on the Friday of Labor Day weekend.
7. We kicked around a few ideas about the “Made In Monterey” arts & crafts event proposed for late November.
8. We addressed and stuffed envelopes for the last mailing to this year's grant recipients.  The Mass Cultural Council was fully funded, despite budget cuts for almost everybody else.  Today's letter was to relay this happy news.

Our next meeting will be in early or mid March.  Date to be determined.
